Acidity is a very common health problem suffered by many. It happens when the digestive juice produced inside the stomach that help in the digestion process is not utilized properly. Main causes behind acidity are eating spicy foods, lack of exercise, irregular eating habit, stress, regular consumption of alcohol and so on.
The problem of acidity can be easily prevented with some simple and easy to follow natural remedies.
Drinking Water
At the first sign of acidity, you must drink one or two glass of lukewarm water. Water will help in flushing out the excess acid inside your stomach. Also you need to make it a habit not to drink water during or immediately after a meal as it can lead to improper digestion. If you frequently suffer from acidity then you must drink a glass of lukewarm water every day before going to sleep and immediately after waking up in the morning.
Cloves
If you are suffering from acidity, cloves can help in getting rid of this problem. Take two to three cloves and chew them properly so that the juices keep coming out of the cloves. Soon you will get relief from the various symptoms of acidity. Else you can take the powder of clove and cardamom in equal amount and mix it together to make a mouth freshener. Take this mouth freshener after every meal and you will never have the problem of acidity and bad breath.
Aniseed
Aniseed helps in digestion and give relief from acidity. Simply soak one teaspoon of aniseed in one cup of boiled water overnight. In the morning strain the water, add a teaspoon of honey to it and sip it at least three times in a day to get relief from acidity. Also you can chew some aniseed after eating a heavy or spicy meal. But you need to chew them properly so that the juice of aniseed can soothe your stomach.
Jaggery
If you have the problem of acidity, you need to take some Jaggery. The high amount of potassium present in Jaggery helps in maintaining the balance of acids present inside the stomach. After every meal you should take a small piece of Jaggery and keep it in your mouth and suck it until acidity subsides. Remember this remedy is not suitable for those having diabetes.
Ginger
Ginger is used to treat different kinds of health conditions including acidity. The anti-inflammation properties present in ginger helps to treat acidity. During acidity just take a slice of fresh ginger and chew it. The ginger juice will neutralize stomach acids. You can even put some fresh ginger slices in a cup of boiling water, allow it to steep for a few minutes and then drink it. Even a spoonful of ginger juice when taken two to three times a day can give relief from acidity.
Milk
Milk can also help a lot to stabilize the gastric acids present in the stomach and give you relief from acidity. Milk is a rich source of calcium which prevents build-up of acid inside the stomach. During acidity you must avoid hot milk and go for a glass of cold milk. So, next time whenever you have a spicy meal and you feel that there can be the problem of acidity, simply drink a glass of cold milk after your meal. This will soothe your stomach and there will be no issue of acidity.
Butter Milk
Another simple remedy to treat acidity at home is to consume butter-milk mixed with a little black pepper powder. Else you can take half a glass of butter milk and then mix one tablespoon coriander leaf juice and drink it immediately. You can get butter milk from the market or make it at home. For making buttermilk, take less than a cup of milk and add a tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice to it. Leave it for five minutes and your buttermilk is ready. You can drink butter milk several times a day until you get relief from acidity.
Basil Leaves
Whenever you suffer from acidity, the first thing you need to do is eat some basic leaves and chew them properly. The medicinal properties of basil leaves will give you instant relief from acidity, gas and nausea. Else you can boil five to six basil leaves in a glass of water and sip it frequently. For those who suffer from acidity frequently, must keep crushed and dried basil leaves handy which can be consumed with water or tea for instant relief.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar is good for various stomach problems including acidity. When suffering from acidity, you must dilute one or two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar with half a cup of water and drink it. Soon you will get relief from acidity. Else take two tablespoon of natural apple cider vinegar and mix it with a teaspoon of honey and drink it before eating a spicy meal to avoid this problem. If apple cider vinegar is not available at home, then you can even use white vinegar.
Cumin Seeds
Cumin seeds can also be used to treat acidity. Take some roasted cumin seeds and slightly crush them. Now, add this crushed cumin seeds to a glass of water and drink it with every meal you eat. Else you can boil one teaspoon of cumin seeds in a glass of water, strain and then drink the water after each meal. This will also effectively treat the problem of acidity. You can also get relief from acidity by taking a mixture of coriander seeds and cumin seeds powder along with sugar.
