Get Rid Of Bad Breath

A large number of people suffer from halitosis or bad breath due to various medical reasons. Several health conditions such as gum diseases, acid reflex and sinus infections can be the leading causes of halitosis. Consumption of certain food items regularly such as onions and garlic can also cause bad breath.

Most people are reluctant to visit dental clinics for a permanent solution. However, there are many effective home remedies for bad breath.

Good oral hygiene is one of the most essential factors required to eliminate bad breath forever. Brushing the teeth after meals and twice every day is vital for good hygiene. Use dental floss to eliminate food particles lodged in between the teeth which can lead to the growth of bacteria and bad odor. Brushing the tongue also helps to cure bad breath.

Home Remedies for Bad Breath

1. Parsley is another herb that is a very effective home remedy for bad breath. Include parsley in your soups, salads, sandwiches or just chew it raw. You can also make a tea by boiling chopped parsley in water and adding a few ground cloves to the mixture. Add a bit of honey to this tea and sip it throughout the day for effectively curing bad breath.

2. Sage contains essential oils with antibacterial properties that can eliminate the causes behind bad breath. Sage leaves can be chewed slowly to fight bad breath. Else you can make an herbal tea by putting one tablespoon of chopped sage into a glass of boiling water. Allow it steep for ten minutes and then drink it slowly. You can also mix the extracts of sage and calendula in equal proportions and add it to a glass of warm water. Now gargle with this solution several times a day.

3. Fenugreek seeds are easily available in most Indian grocery stores. A teaspoon of these may be added to 3 glasses of cold water . The mixture must then be boiled, strained and cooled for making a tea. Sipping this tea is one of the most effective home remedies for bad breath.

4. Another of the popular bad breath home remedies includes eating plenty of avocados. Avocados have natural compounds that help prevent and treat stomach infections.  It has natural anti-septic properties that can remove intestinal decomposition which is often a cause of halitosis.

5. Neem based toothpastes are also available in Indian stores. These are very effective for all oral problems including bad breath. Brush with a soft toothbrush gently, twice a day for preventing bad breath and do not forget to brush the tongue as well.

6. Make a natural mouthwash consisting of Aloe Vera gel and honey and gargle or sip this mixture from time to time as one of the wonderful bad breath home remedies.

7. Curing bad breath with a lemon rinse has been used for generations. The high acidic content in lemon will prevent the growth of bacteria on the tongue and gums. Mix one tablespoon of lemon juice to a cup of water and rinse your mouth properly. You can even make a mixture of salt, lemon and water to rinse your mouth before going to bed. This remedy will definitely cure bad breath within a few days.

8. Probiotics like acidophilus are very effective in curing bad breath when consumed regularly. Eating yogurt rich in healthy bacteria will help in curing bad breath completely with time, so long as you keep consuming probiotics to keep the population of odor causing bacteria in check.

9. These two home remedies for curing bad breath work on cleansing your mouth and spreading a fresh scent through it. Chew on sun flower seeds after meals and drink water to help cleanse your mouth and cure bad breath that may linger due to odor causing foods. And munch on mint leaves to spread a fresh scent through your mouth, which will prove effective in curing bad breath in consequence.

10. Food to avoid as a part of the home remedies for bad breath include dairy, fried and sugary foods, garlic, onions, alcohol, coffee, refined flour, meat and eggs. Western as well as Chinese practitioners believe that these items contribute to the problem. Plenty of water and fruit/vegetable juices must be taken as these liquids help flush out the bacteria causing halitosis. Furthermore, halitosis is also directly related to the amount of “heat” one has in the stomach. So, drinking watery beverages can help restore the balance and turn down this heat. It can also help remedy constipation which may be the underlying reason of bad breath.

Home remedies prove to be quite effective in curing halitosis but if there are serious underlying causes, it is essential to consult a good dentist. There are many experienced and qualified dentists who offer solutions to various dental issues such as halitosis, dental implants, dental corrections, gum problems, cavities and toothaches.

Dentists often prescribe toothpastes with fluoride content to fight bad breath issues. Although mouthwash solutions can stop bad breath, it is not a permanent solution. Bad breath can be caused due to several other reasons. It can be an indication of an underlying health issue. It is therefore quite essential to consult a dentist or a physician to obtain a permanent cure.
